Advice For Young And Learner Drivers

Making Young Driver Insurance Affordable

Teenage drivers have the most expensive car insurance of any age group. This is especially true in the UK. The expense of car insurance for young people or those with a provisional licence makes it difficult for many to drive their own vehicle. The main reason insurance is so high is due to the high risk young people and learner drivers pose while driving. According to statistics at least one in every five young drivers will have an accident that is classified as serious. This is due to their inexperience as new drivers. In some cases it is due to the fact that they try to show off. Young people have the tendency of believing they can do anything behind the wheel and will often take risks an experienced driver would not take.

The legal driving age for people in the UK is seventeen for cars. They can start driving a moped at the age of sixteen. All drivers must carry car insurance in order to drive. To attempt driving without it is against the law and can result in stiff fines and penalties. Unfortunately many teens cannot afford the high cost of young driver insurance and will therefore drive without it. This is a foolish risk to take. It can cost more than just a penalty. It could cost a lawsuit which must come out of the pocket of the uninsured.

If you are a learner and looking for insurance for a provisional driver, you are probably having trouble finding cover you can afford. However, there are things that you can do to get on the road. The first thing you should consider is to put off buying a car until you have a few years of driving under your belt. Drive your parents car instead. Get insured under their insurance and learn how to drive safely that way. You are less likely to show off when driving the parents car. If you are bound and determined to own your own vehicle pick one that is older and considered slower. Do not buy a sports car or do modifications on the vehicle. Both of these things result in higher insurance premiums.

Take a course in safe driving after you get your licence. Many insurance companies will offer discounts to teens and other young drivers who take these courses. Another way to get a discount is to buy insurance online. You can also earn points from insurance companies by keeping your driving record clean. That means no accidents or traffic violations. Use your common sense when driving. You are less likely to have an accident if you do this. Another thing you should consider is not having passengers in your car with you. it can lead to too many distractions. Some teenage drivers pay more attention to the passenger than to what is happening on the road. You are less likely to practice defensive driving when you have a passenger.

Defensive driving is very important. If you are aware of the other drivers on the road then you can have a better chance of preventing an accident from happening. Be prepared for anything that another driver might do. Be ready for anything. You never know when someone is going to pull out in front of you or when a car might slam on the brakes. Young drivers car insurance is expensive but by driving safely you may find it will not take long for the premiums to come down in price.
